# Why Are My Screenshots Blurry? 6 Causes and Fixes

> Screenshots look blurry when they are scaled after capture, saved as low-quality JPG, captured on a low-resolution display, or shrunk by the app you paste them into. Fix it by exporting PNG, capturing at your display’s native resolution, exporting at 2× in ClickSnap, and avoiding resizing before sharing.

## 1. Saved as JPG
JPG compression smears sharp text edges, especially at low quality. **Fix:** export **PNG** for anything with text. ClickSnap’s **Copy** button always copies PNG.

## 2. Scaled down to fit
Shrinking an image throws away detail. Chat apps, docs and email clients often display images smaller than their real size. **Fix:** click the image to view it at full size, or crop to the part that matters so it doesn’t need shrinking.

## 3. Low-resolution display
On a standard (non-Retina) screen, a screenshot only has as many pixels as the screen. **Fix:** export at **2×** in ClickSnap. It won’t invent detail that wasn’t captured, but it keeps edges crisp when the image is shown larger, for example on slides.

## 4. Browser zoom
Capturing at 67% zoom makes text tiny and soft. **Fix:** reset zoom to 100% (**`Ctrl/Cmd + 0`**) before capturing. For slides, zoom **in** to 125–150% before capturing so text is bigger in the image.

## 5. Extremely tall pages
Browsers can’t draw an image taller than 16,384 pixels, so ClickSnap shows very tall pages scaled down in the editor. **Fix:** open **Export → Very long page** to save full-resolution parts or one PDF, or capture just the important section with **Select Area** (**`Alt + Shift + A`**).

## 6. Re-saving the same file
Opening a JPG, editing and saving it again compounds the compression every time. **Fix:** keep the original PNG and export a copy at the end.

## Where it gets blurry after you share it
| Where | What happens | What to do |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Slack, Teams | Large images shown as previews | Click to open full size |
| Email | Some clients shrink inline images | Attach the file instead |
| Social media | Recompressed as JPG | Upload PNG; keep text large |
| Slides | Stretched to fill the slide | Export at 2×; don’t enlarge past 100% |

## Quick checklist
- PNG for text
- Browser zoom at 100% (or higher for slides)
- Crop rather than shrink
- 2× export for slides and print
- Keep the original; export copies

## Frequently asked questions

### Why are my screenshots blurry when I paste them?

The app you paste into usually shows a scaled-down preview. Click the image to view it full size, or crop it so it doesn’t need shrinking.

### Is PNG or JPG better for screenshots?

PNG, for anything with text or interface elements. JPG compression softens sharp edges.

### Does exporting at 2× make a screenshot sharper?

It keeps edges crisp when the image is shown larger, but it can’t add detail that wasn’t captured. Capturing at a higher page zoom adds real detail.
